Connecticut's new inspector general is speaking publicly as he steps into the role that oversees police use-of-force cases.

Judge Eliot Prescott said he is already meeting with police chiefs and civil rights groups.

"In some of these communities, there has been no trust at all," Prescott said. "And Judge Devlin—through going to meetings night after night, talking to these communities—has come to begin that process of building trust."

Prescott takes over for Robert Devlin, who is retiring next month.

The position was created in 2020 following the death of George Floyd.
