New law expands the definition of distracted driving

The legislation would expand the definition of distracted driving to include holding a mobile electronic device, having a video playing while driving and failing to maintain a proper lookout while driving.

Gov. Ned Lamont signed a bill Friday that is aimed at preventing distracted driving.

The legislation would expand the definition of distracted driving to include holding a mobile electronic device, having a video playing while driving and failing to maintain a proper lookout while driving.

The bill will go into effect Oct. 1

Connecticut already prohibits drivers from using hand-held mobile devices.
