Gov. Ned Lamont announced Friday that the state will invest $58.6 million to create a program to provide housing and recovery support for residents who are facing both opioid use disorder and homelessness.
The recovery initiative will provide rental subsidies, trauma-informed case management and essential resources.
The program is expected to help 500 people annually over the four years.
Funding for the program came from a portion of the state's settlement with pharmaceutical companies over their role in the opioid epidemic.
Connecticut's By Name List has found that there are more than 4,500 people in the state experiencing homelessness, with 30% of them saying they have substance use disorders.
