A new state law that adjusts the way motorists and bicycle riders must share the roads took effect at the beginning of July.
Cyclists are no longer required to ride as far to the right as possible.
It also gives municipalities more options when placing bike lanes.
Milford implemented the state's first and only contraflow bike lane on Shipyard Lane. It allows riders to choose whether to ride along with traffic or against it.
The law also requires that roads upgraded by state and local governments meet new standards that increase safety for bicycles and pedestrians.
