If your energy bill seems higher – you’re not alone.
A new report says prices are going up across the country.
The report was released on Thursday by climate advocacy organization, Climate Power. It says household energy bills have gone up 13% nationally since January.
New Yorkers outside the Con Edison service walk-in center shared what they have seen in their own bills.
“They’ve gone way up since last year, I’ve noticed a difference,” Monica Davis said. She says her bill has gone up between $30-$40 each month in the past year. “I just pay what it is, there's nothing else I can do, if I want to have lights and electricity I have to pay.”
"My price has been rising for no reason, every month it goes way up, up, up," Sal Salhoopy said. He says his bill has gone up $250 since last month.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Con Edison said, "Con Edison is acutely aware of the issue of affordability, and we have provided about $500 million of discounts to income-eligible customers in our energy assistance programs in the last two years.”
Con Ed is also urging customers to set thermostats to the lowest comfortable temperature to cut costs.
