Islip Town Historian George Munkenbeck says history is alive and all around us - including a book from the 18th century that was only recently found tucked away in an attic.
The book included a spooky and scandalous report from 1737 about a young lady in Islip.
“We have to guess that it was some sort of a charge of witchcraft," says Munkenbeck.
The entry can be found written upside down on page 453 in Islip’s Town minutes.
“They put it in the minutes, but they hid it because it would have upset somebody," says Munkenbeck.
It was determined the young woman’s accuser was lying, but we will never know for sure.
