They were the first to arrive and the last to leave. A local amateur soccer club won more than just a trophy over the weekend. Newtown Pride FC captured the first installment of The Soccer Tournament and the $1 million dollar prize that came with it.
"If you believe in something and you have support from people who are closest to you, I think that's the most important thing. Because I can't tell you how many people I kind of ignored that were shaking their head like, you shouldn't do this, you're wasting your time, wasting your money. If you do it for the right reasons and you believe in it and you're not really worried about the outcome and you have the support from people whether you WIN or LOSE... you can really achieve anything," said co-founder and General Manager Matt Svanda.
The team said some of the winnings will go back into the organization and some will go back into the Newtown community
