NJ Transit emergency plan saves 20 bus lines abandoned by Coach

NJ Transit has stepped in to keep running the bus routes that Coach USA canceled shortly after filing for bankruptcy in June.

Coach USA abandoned 20 bus routes in Hudson, Passaic and Bergen Counties.

At the time, county executives called it “unacceptable” and pushed for NJ Transit to step in.

Despite the “significant challenges” brought up by NJ Transit officials, the rescue plan began Saturday without costing riders a day.

NJ Transit says riders shouldn’t expect any service interruptions.

Transit officials say this is the fourth time in the last two years that the corporation has had to pick up the pieces after contracted carriers abandoned routes.

These unexpected costs come as NJ Transit faces a budget shortfall.

In a statement, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy called on the legislature to properly fund NJ Transit to avoid further interruptions.
