Thousands gathered in downtown Stamford near the Stamford Superior Court Saturday for a No Kings protest – one of many of demonstrations today across the U.S.
Organizers say they oppose what they describe as the authoritarian actions and executive overreach that has become characteristic of President Donald Trump's administration. They also say they want to promote unity and activism through peaceful protest.
Demonstrators told News 12 that they are against the Trump administration's immigration policy.
While the earlier protests this year — against Elon Musk's cuts in spring, then to counter Trump's military parade in June — drew crowds, organizers say this one is building a more unified opposition movement. Top Democrats such as Senate Leader Chuck Schumer and Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders are joining in what organizers view as an antidote to Trump's actions, from the administration's clampdown on free speech to its military-style immigration raids.
News 12's Frank Recchia will have more beginning at 6 p.m.
