An electrical fire lit up the sky in blue over New York City Thursday night.
The NYPD summed up the situation in a tweet that read "no injuries, no fire, no evidence of extraterrestrial activity."
Con Ed says Last night’s electrical fault caused a sustained electrical arc flash and transmission disturbance at a facility in Queens which lit up the city skyline in blue.
It happened around 9 p.m. at a Con Ed substation in Astoria that caused outages in the area. The explosion temporarily stopped flights at LaGuardia Airport.
Everything is back up and running this morning and law enforcement says there was no criminality behind the fire.
Con Ed released a statement explaining that all power lines in the area are running and stable.
Con Edison is investigating the cause.
The explosion also caused a brief power outage at Rikers Island Thursday night. Backup generators were automatically activated, and the complex has since returned to normal power.
Investigators are still working to determine a connection between this outage and the transformer incident.
