National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has updated its 2024 Atlantic hurricane season outlook with a highly active season likely to continue in the Atlantic Basin.
We’re still on track as the highest predicted forecast ever from NOAA due to near record-breaking sea surface temperatures.
Even though the African Saharan dust has limited tropical activity in July, tropical activity will pick up mid-August through mid-September. One of the main reasons is the Saharan air layer will weaken, which will allow tropical activity to thrive in very warm sea surface temperatures, a moisture-rich environment and weak vertical wind shear in the coming weeks.
Hurricane Ernesto is currently forecast to move through Bermuda in the next 48 hours as a Category 2 or 3 storm.
In the tristate, coastal communities will experience rough surf, large swells and windy conditions from Ernesto remaining offshore.
