The Noroton Heights Fire Department in Darien held an open house Sunday as it searches for volunteers.
Organizers say the event helped introduce the community to what its like to be a firefighter.
Kids were able to hold the water hose and knock down a pretend fire. There were also rescue demonstrations.
Firefighters say the national disasters like Hurricanes Harvey and Irma highlight why local departments need volunteers to join.
