Four people were displaced after a chimney fire along West Rocks Road in Norwalk.
The fire started around 8 p.m. on Saturday.
When crews arrived, they found the fire had spread from the wooden chimney to an interior wall and a bedroom.
Assistant Chief Timothy Reardon says as the temperatures drop, firefighters see a rise in chimney fires.
Officials say while crews put out the fire in about 20 minutes, they remained on the scene for close to two hours to put out hot spots.
Reardon says while these types of fire are common, they are mostly avoidable.
"We always say to have your chimney checked and maintained by a professional every year. Also, older chimneys need to get inspected to make sure there's no cracks in the mortar. Anything that can have fire, smoke penetrate the chimney, go into the house," he says.
