Norwalk firefighters say they're more ready than ever for hurricane season after purchasing a new vehicle for emergency evacuations.
Deputy Chief Steven Shay says the 2008 cargo truck was purchased from military surplus for $1,400. The truck made the journey from Maryland on Tuesday, under the care of department mechanics.
Shay says the truck will be able to slog through over 6 feet of water to move residents to safety or emergency personnel to where they need to go.
With over 4 feet of clearance to the tailgate, and an air intake that acts as a snorkel, firefighters say the truck will handle nearly anything hurricane season can throw at it.
