Norwalk police filed criminal charges Wednesday against the mother of a 2-year-old girl who was allegedly brutally beaten by a man she met online.
Police say Samantha George, 24, waited several days to take her daughter to the hospital after the girl was allegedly beaten and shaken. They say George turned herself in on Monday and is being charged with risk of injury to a minor.
Officials say the girl lost vision in one eye and suffered from seizures and head trauma after being beaten by 31-year-old convicted sex offender Pedro Salinas. He was charged with abusing the girl last month.
Investigators say George moved from San Diego to Salinas' home on Lincoln Avenue in Norwalk with her daughter after meeting him online this year. They say in June, Salinas sent George out to buy beer and when she came back her 2-year-old was unresponsive and had to be taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for severe injuries.
According to officials, Salinas would also put George's 5-year-old son in timeouts for an entire day without food.
Police say George is being held at the Niantic Correctional Facility and Salinas is at Bridgeport Correctional Center.
