News 12 Connecticut has received numerous emails over the weekend from parents asking the school system to delay its vote on its new budget and proposed cuts until Mayor Harry Rilling and state Sen. Bob Duff can take a closer look.
The school board planned to vote on the budget last week but the meeting didn't end until after midnight with no vote.
More than 80 Norwalk teachers could lose their jobs this fall because of budget cuts.
Of those teachers, 70% work at Norwalk elementary schools.
The Norwalk Board of Education has requested $13.2 million more than the city has approved.
Parents say music and arts programs across the board will be the hardest hit.
These cuts come at a time when taxpayers have just been asked to pay much more in property taxes.
State Sen. Duff gave News 12 Connecticut this quote saying, "The mayor and I will have discussions on how best to allocate those resources. Now that the legislative session is over, my goal is to get a resolution to this manufactured crisis ASAP."
News 12 Connecticut is also reaching out to the school system for comment.
The board of education is holding a special meeting tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
Superintendent Alexandra Estrella has said she's working with city and state leaders to explore additional funding options.
