Nearly a dozen schools in Norwalk will be dismissing students early on today due to the unusually hot weather, officials say.
Norwalk Public Schools announced Wednesday afternoon that 11 schools will close two hours early. Temperatures are expected to be in the 90s today.
Nathan Hale, Ponus Ridge, Roton and West Rocks middle schools will be affected, in addition to Cranbury, Kendall, Naramake, Rowayton, Silvermine, Tracey and Wolfpit elementary schools. Brien McMahon and Norwalk high schools will not have early dismissals.
School officials say the decision was made because some of the schools, like the Tracey School, do not have air conditioning.
Lunch will still be served to the children and buses will be available to pick them up.
Officials say that all after-school activities scheduled for the impacted buildings will be canceled.
