While Cuban cigars are still illegal in the United States, hiring a Cuban to make cigars is legal and considered a money-maker for one Norwalk cigar store.
Several months ago, the Cigar Factory Outlet placed an ad in a Spanish newspaper in New York City for a cigar hand roller. The owners never thought they?d find someone with so much experience. Alberto Hernandez had worked in the Partagas Factory in Cuba for 45 years.
According to the outlet?s owners, no other cigar store in southwestern Connecticut has its own cigar roller. The outlet?s owners say from the day they hired Hernandez, their business flourished. The owners moved Hernandez from New York City into an apartment in Norwalk to keep him close to their establishment.
