About 1,000 people who want to join the Norwalk Fire Department took a test Tuesday in hopes of becoming a city firefighter.
The department only does testing for new firefighters every two to three years. A record number of applicants showed up Tuesday for 15 available positions.
Norwalk fire officials say city residents get five points automatically added to their score.
