The Norwood community is mourning the loss of a 58-year-old woman who was a mother, grandmother and overall friend to many in the neighborhood.
Elizabeth "Betty" Wimmer was killed Saturday night in an accident in Woodlawn.
Police say Wimmer was driving south on Webster Avenue when her 2000 Saturn sedan was struck by a 2009 Honda CR-V going in the wrong direction. Police say it happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Wimmer was found unconscious and unresponsive. Her 5-year-old granddaughter and a 10-year-old were also in the car, but were not injured.
The driver of the Honda was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. Police say they're still investigating why the driver crossed the yellow lines and went in the wrong direction.
Friends and neighbors lit candles and held a memorial in Wiimmer's honor in Norwood on Sunday.
