The Corpus Christi Monastery's chapel on Lafayette Avenue, which has been standing for more than 100 years, is in need of a serious facelift, according to a group of nuns there.
They say disrepair in the aging building distracts them from prayer, but the facelift is expected to cost $150,000.
Even with a $5,000 donation from a man over the weekend, the sisters say they have a lot of fundraising to do before they can hope to afford renovations.
But it's a big year for the nuns, the chapel and the Dominican Order, which is celebrating its 800th anniversary. The feast of Corpus Christi is also coming up on May 29.
