Argenis Baez was arraigned on charges,
including murder, in connection to the fatal stabbing of
off-duty transit officer Arianna
Reyes-Gomez, 31. The incident took place Monday morning.
The 33-year-old suspect
was seen in handcuffs at the 44th Precinct Monday after turning himself in to
police.
The prosecutor revealed that Reyes-Gomez was stabbed eight
times in her legs, breast, torso and back.
Footage showed a struggle between Baez and Reyes-Gomez that lasted
two minutes before they entered her apartment Monday morning. The footage
then shows Baez walking out of the apartment alone with a knife in hand.
Officers found the transit officer dead in her apartment with
multiple stab wounds around 3 a.m. Reyes-Gomez leaves behind a 3-year-old
child.
The prosecutor says Baez confessed about the killing to his
aunt, and the aunt’s son dialed 911. The defense attorney went on to say
that Baez did express remorse.
Baez is set to appear in court again on Friday to face a grand
jury, with a possible life prison sentence if found guilty.
The NYPD says there was a total of 2,822 reported domestic
violence cases across the city from July 1, 2020 to the end of last year.
