Officials are calling on manufacturers to change the shape and style of paintballs guns so that they are not mistaken for assault rifles.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal joined New Haven police officers Monday afternoon to call for action.
They say the genuine look of paintball guns could lead to very dangerous situations.
Blumenthal says paintball guns are currently exempt from a federal law requiring a specific marking on toy firearms.
He says he is pushing federal officials to change that.
