A person was hospitalized after crashing their vehicle into a stone pillar Thursday in Newtown, fire officials say.
It happened just before 5 a.m. on South Main Street near Blue Spruce Drive.
Firefighters from Bostford Fire Rescue say the vehicle left the road and went airborne for 52 feet before it landed and crashed into the pillar.
The crash also led to a fluid spill.
The driver was taken to Danbury Hospital with what officials say are "mild to moderate" injuries.
Officials say that because of the crash, the stop sign on Blue Spruce Drive will need to be replaced. Drivers are asked to be cautious.
