Bridgeport officials announced Saturday that federal cleanup crews will arrive in the Park City on Monday to begin clean up work at the site of a chemical fire that occurred more than a year ago.
The massive fire broke out at an abandoned factory building on Sept. 11, 2014. The building had stored chemicals used to make commercial perfumes.
City officials say the Environmental Protection Agency will begin cleaning the site as part of $4.2 million project that will be paid for by a federal grant.
Officials will meet with residents before the cleanup begins. They say the meetings will brief residents on what exactly the cleanup crews will be doing.
News 12 is told the site will be covered to ensure that nearby residents are protected from any airborne contaminants kicked up by the work.
