Officials: Four charged in 2023 Bridgeport ballot fraud case

Four Bridgeport residents have been criminally charged in connection with the misuse of absentee ballots during the 2023 Democratic mayoral primary, Chief State’s Attorney Patrick J. Griffin announced Wednesday.
The following people were arrested and charged with the following counts:
• Robert Anderson, 63, was charged with three counts of possession of ballots and envelopes restricted, two counts of misrepresenting eligibility requirements for voting by absentee ballot and two counts of failure to sign as an assistant on an absentee ballot.
• Maria Hernandez, 63, was charged with two counts of possession of ballots and envelopes restricted.
• Elsie Mercado, 54, was charged with three counts of misrepresenting eligibility requirements for voting by absentee ballot and five counts of possession of ballots and envelopes restricted.
• Silvia Ramos, 60, was charged with two counts of misrepresenting eligibility requirements for voting by absentee ballot, two counts of possession of ballots and envelopes restricted, two counts of failure to sign as an assistant on an absentee ballot and one count of fraudulent voting.
All four defendants were released and are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 12.
