Bridgeport officials announced Wednesday that they're working with local nonprofit groups to help pay for a young girl's funeral.
Sincere Pettway, 3, died in a kitchen fire at her family's condominium on Frenchtown Road Sunday morning. Officials said they turned to Needs Clearing House, a Greenwich-based nonprofit organization, to help pay for the funeral.
"Anything we can do to help this mother through this transition and through this pain and not have to worry about how she's going to be able to bury her own child," state Rep. Charlie Stallworth said.
Needs Clearing House said it has received additional support from Helping Hands Outreach and Amy's Angels, who were moved by the mother's attempt to rescue the girl. Pettway's mother is now hospitalized for burns.
The funeral will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 11 at the Mount Aery Baptist Church.
