Milford officials say kayakers rescued two people Saturday who were almost swept away by the tide in the Long Island Sound.
The fire department says two men in their 20s were either swimming or walking near the Charles Island sand bar when they were taken away by the tide.
Officials say the kayakers saw what was happening and paddled to the two, giving them life vests until rescue crews could arrive.
One of the swimmers was taken to Milford Hospital for evaluation.
