Authorities are trying to determine what led to a serious car crash in Fairfield that killed one person. Officials say the accident occurred late Tuesday night on the front lawn of a vacant home on Laurel Avenue. Bridgeport and Fairfield police were both handling the case since the accident took place on the border of the two towns. On Wednesday afternoon, Bridgeport police said they took over the investigation. According to police, Bridgeport officers were looking for a vehicle in connection to a crime and called Fairfield police for backup. Authorities say the car was later found, wedged between a house and a cement wall. Officials say one person in the car had to be extracted and later died. Investigators say 23-year-old Carlos Fernandez, the driver, fled the scene but was later arrested.
