A nail salon was severely damaged and several nearby businesses were forced to temporarily close Saturday due to a fire in Orange, officials say.

Crews responded to a smell of smoke coming from a row of stores along 517-519 Boston Post Rd.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the front windows of Black Swan Nails & Spa covered in soot.

They forced themselves into the business and found what they said was a significant fire.

The fire appeared to be accidental, authorities say. No injuries were reported.

The businesses adjacent to the salon were briefly closed so they could clean up, but were expected to reopen by the end of day.

Although it is not required, officials say a monitored fire alarm system would have alerted them earlier and helped minimize most of the damage.
