Bridgeport officials say voter turnout was very light for the special election held to fill seats on the city's board of education.

There were nine candidates on the ballot to fill four seats. Tonight's vote follows a 13-month battle during which a state-appointed board governed the school district.

The election was set up after the state's highest court ruled the school board should be made up of candidates chosen by the city's voters.

The Connecticut Post reports that Democrats Hernan Illingworth, Jacqueline Kelleher and the Reverend Kenneth Moales, as well as former professional basketball player John Bagley, a Working Family party candidate, won seats.
