More than a hundred people gathered outside Trumbull Town Hall Saturday to pay tribute to the spirit of America.

"That spirit is summed up in the Declaration of Independence, which is not some distant, dry document, but rather living American history," said Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, who, like America itself, was born on the 4th of July.

The gathering is an annual Trumbull tradition featuring readings by people of all ages who celebrate America's founding document by reading portions of it aloud.

"This is a non-political celebration of democracy and we are here to say 'thank you' to our founding fathers for giving us this remarkable legacy, which is flourishing 250 years later," Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox said.
