An online petition calls for the ban of off-leash dogs at Lake Mohegan in Fairfield.
The Change.org petition was published by a Fairfield town resident who goes by the name ‘Aaron M.’
Lake Mohegan is one of the few areas in Connecticut where dogs are allowed to roam freely off of a leash.
However, the petition argues that dog owners do not control their dogs or follow any of the park regulations.
The petition also argues that there are no park officials around to enforce the rules and dogs roam freely and often disrupt hikers and others who are not walking dogs.
A dog owner who has been coming to the park for 23 years says she has never had a problem.
"We have dogs that are walked on leash, we have dogs that are not walked on leash and we don't seem to have that much of a problem," says Jennifer Sandberg. "I think there's a few people who have blown this issue out of proportion."
The town says the conservation commission is taking a look into this debate.
There is talk of residents possibly paying for the privilege to walk dogs off-leash.
There is also a
petition to stop the ban and continue allowing dogs to go off-leash.
