Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz and the Connecticut National Guard Foundation announced the kickoff for the 22nd annual Operation ELF (Embracing Lonely Families) in Hartford on Tuesday.

The mission of Operation ELF is to support Connecticut's service members and their families.

For those with family members in the military, the holiday season can be especially difficult.

In providing gift cards, grants and scholarships, the organization has been able to hand out over $60,000 to families.

Donations can be made online, or if you'd like more information you can visit their website.
