Optimum Business and the Bridgeport Regional Business Council announced the grant winners of the Lifting up Small Businesses Connecticut grant program Wednesday.

In total, 25 businesses were each awarded $5,000 for improving the vitality of the city.

The winners will use the money to help support their growth and long-term success while also contributing to the prosperity of the community.

"We're honored to be able to assist and give these grants to small businesses here in Bridgeport. Really the small businesses are the backbone and heart and sole of every community. So it's our honor to give back to the local community," said Elton Hart of Optimum Tri-State.

Optimum is the sister company of News 12 Connecticut.
