A Hawthorne day care is among the businesses struggling to
stay afloat during this pandemic – prompting some parents to chip in to help.
Little Years Day Care and Learning Center has seen its
number of clients drop from 81 children in January to just 22.
"We haven't been able to pay rent since October, says
Danielle McCann, the day care’s co-owner. "The hardship has been keeping
26 employees full-time…They had to go part time."
She says some parents have been chipping in – buying milk
and snacks for the kids and Christmas decorations, even as they deal with
challenges of their own.
Surviving the pandemic has been extremely tough for the day
care center, but the co-owner says they are “taking it one day at a time."
“We plan on being here,” says McCann. “We have no desire to
close, we want to make a difference."
