7ds agoNews 12 New Jersey is learning more about how Paterson’s emergency responders will handle calls for people experiencing a mental health crisis.
Paterson will be the first city in Passaic County to participate in the “Arrive Together” program. When someone calls 911, law enforcement officials will determine if a mental health professional is needed and if they will pair up with police officers.
Attorney General Matt Platkin says his office is tailoring the program to the unique needs of the Paterson community.
"We're also working through NJ Transit Police at the Paterson bus terminal where we again are partnering with mental health providers to address emotional distress and mental health crisis in and around the terminal,” Platkin said.
The “Arrive Together” program was first launched in Cumberland County two years ago.
