While traveling for the holidays may never be fun, experts say the trip can be much more comfortable by being prepared.
They suggest bringing snacks, drinks and something to help find a faster route.
At the Darien Service area Sunday, desperate drivers searched eagerly for spots, while others completely ignored no parking signs.
Travelers News 12 spoke said they pass the time on the road telling stories and playing games.
“Have a full stomach and have a lot of patience. That's about it. There is no other strategy just have patience,” said one family.
