Bridgeport police are pouring over surveillance video as they investigate a hit-and-run that left a local child care worker seriously injured Thursday night, Chief Roderick Porter said Friday.
"We will leave no stone unturned in our search for the driver, who made the unfortunate decision to leave the scene of an accident, which immediately became the scene of a crime. It's always, always, always better to stop," Porter said.
Shaquess Harris, 23, was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by ambulance around 8:30 Thursday night, where she remains in serious condition with injuries to her spine, said the victim's mom, Davonne Harris.
"My daughter is a fighter, and [she] will come through this and make a complete recovery," she said.
Harris was struck by a car as she and her mother were crossing St. Stephens Road near the PT Barnum community, police said.
"I will never forget seeing her fly up onto the car and hit the street. We did everything right and that driver did everything wrong. Now we want justice," Ms. Harris said.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen a light-colored car speeding away from the scene, south on St. Stephens Road, to call 203-576-TIPS.
