Darien-based nonprofit Person to Person opened its holiday toy store for families in need Thursday for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The toy store is located inside the Anderson Youth & Community Center on the St. Luke's Parish campus in Darien. The nonprofit's clients are given a toy and book for each of their children and a board game for the family to share.
The pandemic forced the toy store to close the past two years. Instead, clients were given a gift card during a drive-thru event.
"To be back in-person, for parents to be able to come and select a toy for their children is just exciting," Person to Person CEO Nancy Coughlin said.
Person to Person has been hosting the gift giveaway for nearly three decades.
Coughlin says the event will provide Christmas gifts for around 2,000 local children between now and Saturday.
