Two text messaging scams are spreading across New Jersey, and police are warning residents to be on the lookout.
Scammers from an unknown number are texting a picture of a document saying “Final notice — court enforcement action” with a QR code to scan and pay a balance. The text also claims nonpayment would lead to license suspension and other actions.
Piscataway Police in a Facebook post said the text is fake and warn against scanning the QR code, clicking any links, and giving out personal information.
In addition, Piscataway Police said another text message scam circulating claims to be from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission regarding unpaid tolls.
Recipients are asked to ignore the notice and mark it as spam.
