Do you think pizza should be our state food? State senators are once again serving up a proposed bill to recognize the dish as the state's signature food.

State Sen. Gary Winfield (D-New Haven) is one of several state legislators who proposed Senate Bill 390, which would recognize pizza as the state food and what it does for our economy.

"Pizza is synonymous with New Haven and, by extension, the state and we think for the multiple things we could lobby for, pizza wins. A lot of people actually cared about this so when it didn't cross the finish line last year, we suspected it might come back -- and it did," said Winfield.

Colony Grill's bar-style pizza is just one of many delicious styles of pies Connecticut has to offer.

"It's a simple food, which is what I like about it," said Mike Brown, from Wilton.

Pizza lovers News 12 spoke with say they hope the bill delivers.

"Since we're the pizza capital, I think it would be a good. It's a great idea," said Brown.

"Having more people see that will make them want to come to Connecticut," said Kelly Bardin, the manager of Colony Grill in Norwalk.

Winfield says he expects the pizza bill to be heard sometime in the next few weeks and that there is a good chance it will pass.
