State workers named in a federal lawsuit spoke to News 12 Saturday about what they say is the "rampant racial discrimination" in the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
Road-maintenance workers say the suit alleges ongoing racial mistreatment of minority employees at a Milford DOT facility.
The lawsuit in U.S. District Court seeks financial damages. Those bringing the action say they've had to put up with their superior’s racial slurs.
“In 2020, we shouldn't be having to go to work to receive this treatment. Everyone should be treated equally,” said Luis Ortiz.
“We complain about it…It seems that all they want to do is just sweep it under the rug," says Tyquan Williams.
The lawsuit says minority employees are forced to work "under the constant threat of retaliation."
The Connecticut DOT had no comment about the lawsuit.
