A push is underway for commercial flights to depart from the privately-owned Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford.
The Bridgeport Regional Business Council says reopening the airport for commercial use, like it was 10 years ago, would revitalize the area and create jobs. A state lawmaker plans to propose a bill that seeks to have Connecticut buy the airport from the aircraft maker and renovate the facilities.
Many homeowners near the airport oppose the plan, saying noise and traffic would increase. However, business leaders argue the airport was in the area before the homes were built.
