Two dead skunks were found with a sign that police say was a political message targeting President Barack Obama.
Police say a woman reported the dead skunks at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. They were discovered at the intersection of Park and Jackman avenues. One was allegedly tied about 4 feet up a telephone pole, the other at its base.
There was also a sign depicting an American flag with a hammer and sickle instead of stars and the words "Obama Stinks," according to police.
Authorities say that because of the reference to Obama, the Secret Service was informed of the incident. They say the sign did not constitute any sort of threat to the president.
However, officials say whoever committed the crime may be at risk of rabies. Police say they will be treating the incident like any other case of animal cruelty.
The Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
