Four young adults and a juvenile are in custody after police say they crashed a stolen car into a police cruiser.
It happened around 4:15 a.m. on Pequot Avenue near Westway Road, just days after the Southport community met with Fairfield police to address a spike in crime.

Police say officers were patrolling the area due to the recent car thefts and car break-ins, and they noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area.
When they tried to catch up to the vehicle, police say it came at one of the officers head-on, resulting in a collision.

The officer is OK.
Police arrested four suspects, all 19 and 20, as well as a minor.
Police say another car was stolen in the area and several others were rummaged through.

According to police, one of the suspects was involved in a pursuit last week in Westport.
