The search for a missing woman out East led police to discover the body of a female in the woods in a remote part of Manorville.

Suffolk County police said they found the body off Connecticut Avenue near S. River Road around 3 p.m. yesterday.

Detectives believe the cause of death to be criminal in nature.

Officials have not yet identified the body.

Suffolk County and Riverhead police have been out in the area searching for Kathleen Trent, 63, since Jan. 29. Her son reported her missing after not seeing or hearing from her since the evening of Jan. 27, two days prior.

Trent was last seen at her home in Riverhead, about six miles from where this body was found in the Manorville woods off Connecticut Avenue and S River Road.

Investigators described Trent as five feet two inches tall with blonde hair and blue eyes.

Police said the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office is working to identify the body and determine the exact cause of her death.

The investigation is ongoing.
