A Milford man was arrested and charged with kidnapping and carjacking his ex-girlfriend who works as an EMT in Bridgeport, police say.

Bradley Doyle, 22, of Milford, was arrested and charged with robbery by carjacking, kidnapping, unlawful restraint, and multiple other charges.

Police said Doyle, who also works as a first responder, approached a co-worker who he previously dated for a short time earlier this year and forced her into her own car in the parking lot of A.M.R. American Medical Response in Bridgeport Thursday at 1:10 a.m.

A witness told police they saw the Doyle force the 22-year-old victim into her personal vehicle, who then took control of her car and fled westbound on Connecticut Avenue toward Seaview Avenue in Bridgeport.

Police said he then led Connecticut State Troopers on a high-speed chase that extended about 60 miles from Bridgeport to Higganum.

Police said Doyle disregarded troopers attempts to stop and continued to speed away with the victim in the car.

Ultimately, Connecticut State Troopers said they were able to stop Doyle in Higganum, where they took him into custody. The victim was unharmed.

Deb Greenwood, who heads up the Center For Family Justice, said police briefed her about the incident since her agency helps domestic violence victims.

"When someone throws you in a car and they drive away being chased by law-enforcement, this is a horrific scenario," Greenwood said.

American Medical Response said in a statement Friday, "Following an initial investigation... an employee has been placed on unpaid administrative leave. Further internal investigation is pending... Our operations are fully cooperating with law-enforcement officials... AMR is committed to providing a safe work environment for all employees."

Greenwood said there could have been a very different outcome had a witness not reported the incident to police.

"Thankfully, that witness more than likely saved that young lady's life," she said

Police said Doyle is under guard as of Friday night at an unspecified Connecticut hospital and will be booked and arraigned after he is released.

They said bond is set at $1 million.
