Two people were seriously injured when a pickup truck crashed into a scooter the pair was riding on in Bridgeport before taking off, police say.

The crash happened Wednesday at Kossuth Street near Berkshire Avenue at 5:47 p.m.

Police say the two people were riding on the scooter when it collided with a pickup truck that took off from the scene.

Investigators say the people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. 

 "And I saw the whole thing, how it happened, and it just repeats in my head -- over and over,” said Martha Ocasio, who called 911.

The family of one of the victims, 18-year-old Adolfo DeJesus -- AJ to his friends and family -- are asking the public to pray for them, saying the teen "had been bravely fighting for his life." 

Officers say the driver of the pickup truck later turned himself in to police late Wednesday.
