A man died after apparently jumping from a window as detectives entered a home while conducting a search warrant in Bridgeport, officials say.
The incident happened Thursday at 130-A Chestnut Street at 2:54 a.m.
Police say detectives were at the home investigating an untimely death that happened Wednesday.
Police entered the apartment and were inside for a short period of time talking to a woman, when one officer looked out an open window and noticed a man lying on the ground, having apparently jumped out of the home.
The man was identified as Wilfredo Alvarado, 48.
Neighbor Jose Ojeda tells News 12 Connecticut that his son played with Alvarado's son and nobody could have guessed the child would end up losing his father in such a tragic and unusual way.
Skeeter Davis, 55, says he knew Alvarado and was there when the incident took place, looking on as first responders tried in vain to save his friend's life.
Alvarado was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police did not say if Alvarado is connected to the untimely death they are investigating, and they say his death is now under investigation as well.
Officials saying it was the Bridgeport State's Attorney who requested that state police take over the investigation.
